2013 Local WSCC Speed Series Members
Purchased my first Westfield (SEiW, 1600cc Toyota 4AGE) in 2008 and entered the WSCC Speed Series in 2009 - won Class A and Overall Novice Champion in my first year! Then changed car and moved to Class F (SEiW, 1998cc Vauxhall XE).
Had a reasonable 2013 - 2nd in Class F and 8th in the Overall Championship. In preparation for the 2014 season I have done nothing to the car. The cure for upgradeitis was the purchase of a 1969 Merlyn Formula Ford. This came out of a private collection in Austria so my focus has been on re-commissioning the car and preparing it for Hill Climbs and Sprints.
For 2014 I will be competing in both the Westfield and the Merlyn in the WSCC Speed Series and HSA Speed Championship…..

Bought a standard spec xflow road car in 2000 and tried a few Track days and a ‘Taster’ sprint at Curborough. ‘Bitten by bug’
So sold car and acquired a written off 1989 SEi chassis in 2001, rebuilt over 2001/2, mainly with 2nd hand bits and a tuned 1660 xflow
Entered WSCC speed series in 2003 and was lucky enough to win Class A that year.
Gradually developed and improved the car over the years with Class E wins in 2005 and 2008.
Fitted Tim Nunn’s Toyota over the winter of 2010/11 and finished the year as O/A Speed Series champion .
Have now rebuilt the engine with forged pistons and rods, rally cams and ported head to give 190hp and 9000rpm!. Also it has a ‘dogbox.
The car is quite light at approx 510kg ( with full cage)
This year I will be in Class C and hope to have some GGR bodywork and some Aerodynamix parts
Planned Speed Series Events
After owning a few high performance cars but not really getting the enjoyment per buck from them, I decided it was time for a change, hence me buying my first Westfield; a 2004 2.0 Zetec SEiW and I’ve not looked back since! Being the competitive male, I decided to look into the Speed Series, as this seemed the most popular way to compete with the Westfield.
Paul Morcom has very kindly taken me under his wing in becoming my mentor for my first season and as some of you are aware, my car has had a major upgraditis this winter. I’ve concentrated mainly on the handling and safety side of things first. This included a trip up to Blink for geo, corner weighting and engine map and I have to say the results are outstanding, the car appears to be a different beast from when I purchased it last summer, with only my driving ability in the way now!
This year due to extensive upgrade costs as well as purchasing all my safety gear, I’m only doing 7 events this season but no doubt will be bitten by the bug and hopefully, if this season goes well a few more next year.
This season I will be entering Class B - Road-going Westfield kit cars over 1800cc (Novice Drivers).Any“H” pattern synchromesh gearbox.
